Durham Region

Located just 40 minutes east of Toronto, Durham Region is an attractive community for young families, seniors and those new to Canada, due to its central location, proximity to the Lake Ontario shoreline and overall accessibility.
The area is characterized by a variety of landscapes and communities, including major lakeshore urban centres, small towns, villages, hamlets and farms.
Durham Region has one of the fastest-growing populations in Canada, with approximately 600,000 residents in 2006 and a forecasted population of around one million people by 2031. The area is well-known for the strength of its manufacturing sector, which is continually undergoing rapid diversification.

Durham Region features four seasons of outdoor fun. Residents can cycle or hike the Oak Ridges Moraine. In winter, activities such as cross-county or downhill skiing and snowshoeing are popular. Golfers will enjoy and be challenged by courses throughout the area. Fishing is also a year-round activity.
Fall fairs, maple syrup festivals, car shows, garden & studio tours and performing arts activities are available to entertain residents all year round.
Durham Region is home to 109 elementary schools and 27 secondary schools and learning centres. As well, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology is located in Oshawa.
